Today I spent the entire day fixing my car and resting my foot. Basically, I had to replace all four tires, one wheel, and front brakes. Total cost: around $850. Damn.
It is also annoying that my foot hurt real bad, so I can't spend the day exploring Minneapolis as I hoped. Hopefully my foot will be much better tomorrow, otherwise I will be very cranky.
You know, as I re-read this blog and came across to my post about the condition in the Political Science Department at the UW-Madison, I suddenly remembered an old Soviet joke:
A high ranking Soviet official (I think it was Khrushchev) was handling a room of irate people, complaining about the lack of progress in economy. As tension rose, Khrushchev decided to show everybody a photo. It showed a photo of starving African mother with her son. Khrushchev said, "Comrade, look at this photo. Compared to them, our life here in Moscow is great. So, you should not complain about our economy."
Silence permeated in the room. Then one person asked, "Nikita Sergeyevich, how long have their been under socialism?"
